What if we were to stop calling Terrorists 'Terrorists' and instead we call them 'idiots'?
Can you imagine it? ABC World News Report: "idiots just blew up a car in Baghdad..." or "3 idiots in Rome planning to blow themselves up in front of the US Embassy were captured by Italian special forces..." or "Due to the internet, the number of idiots being recruited to Al Qaeda is..."
I don't know about you but I'm ready to live in peace. Enough of this fear based 'terror'--i mean 'idiot'--thing.

Ha! How true! The word terrorist itself implies infliction of fear... which turns into a whole status/power thing. Idiots it is!
I like your idea; it would make watching news a little less depressing and would certainly lessen the amount of fear that terrorists (oh! I mean idiots!) would be able to instill. Unfortunately, some of those people aren't idiots. A few of them are most likely smart people who are willing to carry ideals too far until their own principles are warped beyond recognition. Isn’t that how the barricades in Les Misérables end up? I think it must have broken Enjolras’ heart a little; to realize how his dreams for a future where ‘no man shall slay his fellow, the earth shall be radiant,’ and the human race shall love’ had led them to the ‘heroism of monsters’ on the barricades. (I think those are approximate quotations from Les Miz; I don’t feel like checking)
Interesting point. I haven't read the book, but I don't think Enjolras and company were really out to kill innocent people. I mean, if they lived today, I really doubt Marius and Grantaire, for example, would go on a bus full of innocent commuters and blow themselves up. They'd at least, you know, make sure there weren't any kids on the bus...
I'm sure the terr- exuse me, idiots- all believe they're dying and hope "let others rise to take our place until the Earth is free!" Only their definition of free is a little bit different than ours. And for thinking that, yes, they are idiots.
Who knows? Maybe some of them have been influenced by Les Mis. I could just see it now, if someone showed Osama bin Laden a video of the TAC and he started running around wearing a red vest...
Which brings up another good point. Where do you buy and Enjolras vest?

Unfortunately I feel that American society is governed by fear. Have you read "The Culture of Fear" by Barry Glassner? It is an excellent book commenting on America and "fear," albeit somewhat biased.
